Donations to ASCP qualify as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) for eligible individuals, or can also be made directly to ASCP through PayPal or mailing a check.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
Recent federal legislation has permanently extended the Charitable IRA Rollover, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs), allowing individuals aged 70.5 and older to make direct transfers of up to $100,000 per year from individual retirement accounts to qualified charities, such as ASCP, without having to count the transfers as income for federal tax purposes. Since no tax is incurred on the withdrawal, gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction, but may be counted toward an individual’s minimum required distribution.
Qualified Charitable Distributions may be among the most tax-efficient ways for you to make charitable donations. When you must take your minimum required distribution, the money you receive is taxed at your ordinary income tax rate. By making a transfer from an IRA directly to ASCP you avoid paying income tax on the withdrawal.
Many of our ASCP members are enthusiastic about providing as much support as possible for early career members, researchers, and clinicians to attend the meetings. On average, we have been spending over $60,000 per year to support our travel award program for the ASCP Annual Meeting and the Clinical Trials Workshop, almost all of which comes directly from ASCP funds rather than grants. In addition, we offer greatly reduced registration fees to a large number of young people who qualify as a trainee each year. For members who would like to offer even more support for these programs, the use of QCDs might be a good vehicle to use for that purpose.
To donate a QCD, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 615-649-3085.
You can donate via the PayPal link below or by sending a check ASCP’s Executive Office.
Please make the check payable to ASCP and notate it is for a charitable donation.
